This week we are in the bedroom for our 4-Week Spring Cleaning Challenge. The goal for each week of the 4-Week Challenge is to spend at least 90 minutes - an hour and a half - decluttering, organizing, and cleaning each weekly area. You can divide those 90 minutes up in whatever way works for your schedule - anywhere from 15 minutes a day for six days to all 90 minutes on one day.
To help, I will be hosting a virtual co-decluttering Facebook Room in the Decluttering Community on Saturdays at 10:30 am. Be sure to join the community to participate!
Decluttering your bedroom can be a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be. Here are five areas to focus on to get big results in a flash:
1) Start with the surfaces. Clear off any items on your dresser, nightstand, and other surfaces. Keep only the essentials, such as a lamp and a few decor items.
2) Tackle your closet. Sort through your clothes and donate any items you haven't worn in the past year. Consider using slimline hangers to save space.
3) Organize your drawers. Take everything out of your drawers - one at a time - and sort. Keep only what you need and donate or toss the rest. Use drawer organizers to keep items separated and easy to find.
4) Purge your bookshelf. Sort through your books and donate any that you have already read or don't plan on reading. Consider using bookends to keep your books organized.
5) Declutter under the bed. The ideal practice is to have nothing under your bed. If you must, use under-bed storage containers to keep items organized and hidden away.
One more bonus tip: Remove any items that don't belong in the bedroom. This can include dishes, electronics, or work-related items.
By focusing on these areas, you can quickly declutter your bedroom and make a big impact on the appearance and feel of the space. See you in the group on Saturday for co-decluttering!
